Heartlands Service Centre

Te Pūtahi Whaiora is a busy ‘one-stop shop’ and Heartlands Service Centre for residents in the heart of Coromandel Town. It is our headquarters, where we coordinate a range of projects and services.

Our excellent staff provide expert advice and support, including information on health and disability services, and funding assistance to help people attend hospital appointments in Thames and Hamilton. We also offer rooms for agencies not based in the area to hold regular clinics. Computers with free internet access and a high-quality printer are available, and our friendly team is here to help you.

Our newly built facility includes a set of bathrooms that are open 24 hours a day. Each bathroom has a shower, which can be accessed with a KiwiCash card. KiwiCash cards can be purchased and topped up as needed. A laundry facility is also available for use during our opening hours.

Heartlands is a government-funded inter-agency initiative based at Te Pūtahi Whaiora, enabling people in rural communities — including Colville, Port Charles, Papa Aroha, Koputauaki, Kennedy Bay, Whangapoua, and Manaia — to access government services. Alongside government agencies, a range of social service providers also regularly book rooms to see clients.

Transport Assistance

At CILT, we understand how important it is for everyone to access essential services, especially in our rural community. That’s why we offer transport assistance to help people get to medical appointments, specialist visits, and other important engagements when no other options are available. Our friendly volunteer drivers provide a safe and reliable service, helping to reduce isolation and ensure everyone can receive the care and support they need. We currently offer three separate types of transport assistance.

Community Transport Scheme

We offer travel assistance for Te Whatu Ora-referred appointments by arranging volunteer drivers or a providing payment for self-transport via bank transfer or gas vouchers. To qualify, you need a valid Community Services Card and an appointment confirmation that our staff are able to view. You will be given a form that will need to be signed by your specialist or by the receptionist, and returned to our office.

Payments are calculated by kilometers traveled to and from the appointment.

Community Transport Assistance Scheme

We offer another scheme for those who do not have a Community Services Card or have medical or Work and Income appointments that are not referred by Te Whatu Ora. To qualify for this scheme, you will need to provide us with an appointment confirmation. You will be given a form that will need to be signed by your specialist or by the receptionist, and returned to our office.

This scheme provides a contribution towards your travel costs and may not cover the full cost.

The Coromandel Community Van

Our community van travels to Thames every Thursday with a minimum of three people on board. With this service, we offer door-to-door pickups from addresses within Coromandel town.

The van departs at 9am and returns at 2pm from Pak n' Save, Thames. Bookings are essential and a suggested koha of $15 ensures this service remains accessible.

Van Hireage

Our vans are available for hire by anyone in the community. We currently have three vans in our fleet, with one van modified with a lift for those with wheelchairs or limited mobility.

Please contact us for more information on the process, restrictions and price of hiring our vans.

Digital Connectivity

At CILT, we are committed to bridging the digital divide by offering essential digital connectivity services to our community. Through our partnership with Skinny Jump, we provide low-cost modems to families and individuals who need reliable home internet but may face financial barriers. Additionally, we offer access to Coro Wi-Fi, a free public Wi-Fi service available in Coromandel town centre, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to stay connected for work, study, or keeping in touch with loved ones. These services support digital inclusion and empower our community to participate fully in today’s online world.

Skinny Jump — Subsidised Wireless Broadband

Skinny Jump is a low-cost prepaid broadband service for eligible Kiwi homes. With Skinny Jump, you receive a free modem and  35GB of NZ's finest broadband for signing up. After this, data is $5 for 35GB, plus you will receive 15GB per month in bonus data. You will need to check if your address is eligible for Skinny Jump. You can do this by visiting us at Te Pūtahi Whaiora and asking us to check, or you can use the online checker here. You will need an email address to sign up.

Unfortunately, due to reasons out of our control, Skinny Jump is not available at all addresses.
