The community native plant nursery in Coromandel provides an exciting opportunity to create educationally powerful connections between local schools, iwi and community groups for the benefit of all students.  It is recognised that learning both inside and outside school encourages young people to be capable and knowledgeable citizens, who are involved with the community they live in and who develop a sense of belonging.  Effective partnerships between schools and community organisations bring benefits to schools and students while also helping to build stronger communities.

The programme aims to build partnerships between the  schools and the wider community, helping students apply and build their learning beyond the school setting in authentic ways, as well as providing  opportunities for students to learn, develop and apply skills relevant to the workplace and the world beyond the classroom.  The project shares the vision of the national curriculum of every young person developing into a  confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learner.
